Alan Ren

General Manager
Alan Ren serves as the General manager of VMware China R&D,taking in charge of the research and development of innovative projects, such as container management platform on Cloud Native, Kubernetes, Harbor, IoT, Blockchain, and Machine learning etc. He has also overseen the research and development of open source project - Cloud Foundry which has been merged into Pivotal (PVTL). Besides, he has directed the research and development of the world leading software defined storage and Hyper-Converged solution - vSAN. China R&D is consisted of five business units, namely Cloud Platforms, Networks and Security, Storage and high availability, Cloud Management and End User Computing.

Alan Ren also is the member of Cloud Computing Expert Committee of Chinese Institute of Electronics and the vice chairman of Zhongguancun Chi Lian Software Service Industry Quality Innovation Alliance. In 2017, he has been rewarded the title of “the Leader of Brand Building in Chinese Software and Innovation Services”. In 2015, he won "China's most influential people Award" in the Top Cloud Connect Award.

Prior to joining VMware, Alan Ren served as vice president of iSoftstone (NYSE:ISS) 's global customer business group. Before that, he was co-founder and managing director of a start-up, which was acquired by iSoftstone. Moreover, he has also served as the Director of SUN global delivery center in China.

Alan Ren served as an advanced technology management and architecture position in SUN, IBM and BELLCORE in the United States before his return.

Alan Ren holds EMBA from Rutgers University, Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Michigan and Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Cooper Union College.
